Que es Forex?

El Foreign Exchange Market (Mercado de Intercambio de Monedas Extranjeras), también conocido como Forex o Mercado Internacional de Divisas, es el mercado financiero más grande del mundo. Diariamente se mueven en este mercado alrededor de tres billones de dolares norteamericanos.

En el mercado Forex lo que se compra y se vende es dinero. Se denomina instrumento o vehículo a los pares de monedas con los cuales se puede operar. Uno de los principales es el par EUR/USD que representa la moneda euro contra el dólar norteamericano. La moneda que aparece en la parte izquierda del par se denomina divisa base y la de la derecha divisa cotizada. El valor de cada divisa en Forex se calcula en relación de la otra divisa del par. Por ejemplo, si el EUR/USD está a 1,7770 se entiende que el euro es la divisa base y su valor es 1,7770 dólares, es decir 1,7770 es el ratio que relaciona al euro con el dólar. Con una simple regla de tres obtenemos que un dólar vale 0,5627 euros (1/1,7770).

Forex, al contrario que otras bolsas, no tiene una localización física. Es un mercado virtual interbancario debido a que se gestiona íntegramente de manera electrónica en una red de bancos mundial abierta continuamente 24 horas. Las principales bolsas de Forex del mundo son las de Nueva York, Londres, Tokio y Sídney que al unir sus horarios de apertura y cierre mantienen el mercado siempre abierto exceptuando los fines de semana.

Forex trading offers higher liquidity and price certainty since getting in and out of positions tends to happen with lightning speed. The price quoted for a futures contract, on the other hand, is not necessarily the price for which the contract will be filled.

By using forex trading online platforms, the investor can see real time prices and exchange rates. There also tends to be a controllable amount of risk with forex trading; the required margin amount can never exceed the dollar value of an account. Forex trading strategy is also quite different from futures market investing and desired results -- other than making money of course -- are different.

Before beginning to trade, education is important, devising a forex strategy and what you need from that strategy is important, and choosing a broker or website trading platform and deciding what you need from them is also important. As previously alluded to, there are no commissions charged by forex brokers. Forex brokers make their money on the “spread”. To the investor, this means that a lower spread saves money.
